01. The Challenge
The project involved the full strip-out of a children’s play activity venue within the Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow, to enable its redevelopment into a trampoline and activity theme park. The existing unit included a mezzanine level constructed from structural steelwork, incorporating mezzanine floor steels and purlins, together with extensive mechanical and electrical services. The scope required the removal of selected structural steel elements, alongside the complete removal of all services, finishes, and installations, returning the space to a bare structural shell. The works were undertaken within a live shopping centre environment, requiring careful planning, coordination, and strict safety controls. Throughout the project, close communication with the landlord and the landlord’s managing agent was essential to manage approvals, sequencing, and site logistics.
02. The Solution
A controlled and methodical strip-out strategy was implemented to safely remove the existing structure and services while maintaining full compliance with centre requirements.
Key elements of the solution included:
-
Detailed planning and sequencing for the removal of mezzanine floor steels and purlins
-
Safe dismantling and removal of all mechanical and electrical services
-
Protection of the base building and surrounding areas throughout the works
-
Careful coordination of waste removal within the operational shopping centre
Regular liaison with the landlord and managing agent ensured transparency, timely approvals, and alignment with centre operations at all stages.
Health & safety was managed as a priority, with robust controls in place to manage structural works, working at height, and live-environment risks.
Throughout the fit out of the Trampoline Park at Braehead Centre, SOFO demonstrated excellent coordination and site management. They engaged proactively with Centre Management, adhered to centre protocols, and delivered a high-quality leisure venue with minimal disruption to the wider centre. – Centre Mangement
03. The Result
The project successfully delivered a fully stripped, shell-condition unit, ready for the fit-out of a trampoline and activity theme park within Braehead Shopping Centre.
The result achieved:
-
Removal of all mezzanine steelwork and purlins as required
-
Complete clearance of mechanical and electrical services
-
A clean, compliant shell ready for redevelopment
-
Zero health & safety incidents throughout the project
-
A strong, collaborative working relationship with the landlord and managing agent
This project demonstrates the ability to deliver complex structural strip-out works within live retail environments, while maintaining safety, programme control, and stakeholder confidence.
